Toasty warm in the Moondance Inn great room.
It’s cold outside but nice and warm inside the Moondance. Some of our guests are skiing at Welch Ski Village. They will return to the inn and relax in their private two-person whirlpool. This evening we will serve them wine and appetizers in front of our great room fireplace. We are buying them a great steak dinner at the Bayside Steakhouse (check out our January specials). To enjoy all of this they only drove one hour from the Twin Cities.

Red Wing is the gateway to one of the most beautiful drives is this region. The Great River Road winds along the Mississippi River and through its bluffs. The views are fabulous. Small towns you will pass through include Maiden Rock, Stockholm, Pepin, and Nelson on the Wisconsin side and coming back to Red Wing on the Minnesota side is Wabasha, Reads Landing, and Lake City. Bakeries, artist’s shops, wineries, great restaurants, the National Eagle Center will make this a very memorable day.

One of the great adventures in this area is to drive the Great River Road. Red Wing serves as the starting point. You cross the river into Wisconsin and then follow the Mississippi River to Nelson Wisconsin. Along the way you will see breath taking scenery, pass through numerous quaint villages, enjoy great food, taste wine, and see bald eagles. You cross the river back to Wabasha and can stop to visit the National Eagle Center. It’s a great road trip easily completed in a day.
